Dealing With Hair Loss

 

Hair loss and falling hair are normal within certain limits. When there is excess hair loss and falling hair, it could be a wakeup call of a deficiency or a symptom of a serious underlying condition. Both inadequate diet and environmental factors are responsible for hair loss. It is extremely important to identify the cause for the hair loss.

One of the common causes for hair loss is anemia. Anemia is caused due to inadequate food intake, excessive dieting or fasting, excessive and sudden weight loss, hormonal imbalances, liver dysfunction, illnesses, medication like chemotherapy, radiotherapy and antibiotics among others.

Other factors include stress, environmental pollution, dandruff, poor circulation, sleeplessness, excessive sun exposure, excessive alcohol usage, chemical maltreatment of the hair and scalp like perming and others. In addition to losing hair, the weakened hair can become listless and dull with retarded growth and split ends.

Hair loss must not be taken lightly. An expert must be consulted in order to identify the cause and the adequate treatment program established. It is within normal limits to lose 20 to 200 hairs per day. However, excessive hair loss must be diagnosed and arrested to prevent baldness.

A well balanced diet is important for maintaining the hair glossy, strong and healthy. The diet must include dairy products, fish and seafood, meats and eggs, vegetables both green and yellow, including leafy greens, carrots, lentils, cereals, nuts, fruits etc. A balanced and varied diet will provide the proteins, minerals, vitamins and other elements needed to maintain hair healthy and trouble free. Hair is mostly protein and consuming sufficient proteins maintains hair strong and shiny without split ends.

Minerals, especially iron, are needed to help oxygenate the hair root and follicles and zinc deficiency has been known to cause hair loss. Copper improves quality and hair color.

Vitamins are another vital component for healthy hair. Vitamins B and C help the hair retain its original color and allow for normal healthy hair growth. Vitamin A helps maintain the scalp skin healthy.

The body must have an adequate intake of water in order to process all the food and carry food and oxygen to the cells including those in the hair follicles. Exercising will most certainly improve blood flow throughout the body including the scalp where the hair follicles are located. 25% of hair is water and it is important to drink sufficient water to maintain the hair supple and prevent brittleness.

Human hair is a barometer to the overall health of an individual. When the body is properly nourished, the hair will most certainly show it, in its strength, color, brilliance and softness. Hair problems treated immediately can prevent other conditions from mushrooming into more serious conditions.

A hair problem is one of the first indicators of several underlying health issues. Stress, hormonal imbalances, major surgery, medication, infections, underlying issues like diabetes and lupus among others, are conditions that manifest as excessive hair loss. Identifying the condition and treating it in time with the right treatment will help maintain hair strong, supple and bright - the kind of hair that makes heads turn.
