Men and hair loss go together. It is a sad fact but that is the way it is – men just lose hair more than women do and what’s more, it shows! What is responsible is androgen, the male hormone and this is activated more in men who have a genetic disposition. So if the older men in your family had the tendency to lose hair early, beware, you could be up for the same thing too! So look up those old family photographs and try to prepare yourself for the eventuality of going through life with less hair.

The weird thing is that even youngsters in the teens and twenties are losing hair early or have to cope with hair loss and receding hair lines and yes, you guessed it – it is inherited! The sad fact of the matter is that once the hair follicles begin to shrink, they just cannot support hair within them, much less grow any new hair so that part becomes bald.

Sometimes men between twenty and thirty lose a lot of hair but somehow it stabilizes by the time they turn thirty though one cannot really reverse the process and get back the hair that was lost. So very often, they are left with hair only at the sides of their head and at the back.

Male hair loss is found to be genetic, and although there are forms of medications out there, the side effects are more often than not yet to be determined. One has to consult a doctor so that the right medication is prescribed rather than experimenting with everything that is advertised and promises instant results. There is no quick fix cure for genetic baldness and once you can accept that, you can move forward and calmly try and figure out what best to do.

Alopecia is a type of balding, which accounts for 90% of hair loss in men. Perhaps it might be of some consolation to the men who suffer from this condition to know that approximately 40 million men in North America are affected by hair loss issues. The best attitude would be to accept and then flaunt it like some of the best looking celebrities around.
