The Truth About Hair Transplants

People who have a long term hair loss problem might go so far as to consider hair transplant surgery for rectifying the problem. There are many who are scared of the word surgery so whether hair transplant surgery is for them or not remains a doubt in their minds. There are people walking around who did get a transplant surgery and their hair looks artificial and strange. Then there are questions where prospective patients want to know if it is painful or if it will look unnatural. They are also concerned about what will happen as they grow older and what are their financial implications of getting a hair transplant surgery done.

If you surf the net you will find people who have “been there and done that”. They have before and after pictures of how their looks have changed. There are many success stories where a 35 yr old got a hair transplant done and today at 39 he looks all of 30!

On the subject of pain this is what most patients have to say. Primarily you must select a surgeon who has had plenty of experience and has done many such surgeries. Pain might be felt if the surgeon lacks the necessary skill when cutting the donor area. A skilled surgeon will do the job with minimal pain. But each person has a different threshold of pain and so the answer to ‘Is it painful?’ depends on you and your ability to handle pain.

The next query is about how natural this procedure looks. Well the answer to this is that it does not look fake at all. Transplants look as natural as your normal hair growth and no one can really tell the difference. The transplanted hair is all your own hair taken from different part of your scalp where the growth is good. So the donor areas re-grow the hair and the transplanted area does not have surgical problems like a tissue mismatch. You have to have medication to prevent further hair loss and in most cases there is no further hair loss experienced. Now the cost of the surgery would depend on your location. It has been seen that the surgery in Canada is cheaper than in Los Angeles or New York.

If you have had a serious case of hair loss for years, then you should consider a hair transplant surgery. All the fancy shampoos and creams and lotions and other things are just temporary solutions. The long term problem never really goes away. Hair loss can be slowed done with medication but if your aim is a natural head of hair then hair transplant surgery is for you.
