Causes of hair loss in men have been a debated topic among hair experts but there are certain causes that have been agreed upon by a number of hair loss experts. Some of these causes are genetic predisposition, overproduction of DHT, stress, certain medications, therapies or diseases.
One of the primary causes of hair loss in men is genetic predisposition. Male pattern baldness is usually caused due to certain genes that they have acquired their parents. Some people believe that they generally inherit these genes from their mother but certain studies claim that these genes can be acquired by either of the two parents. What these genes do is that they contribute in the reduction of the size of hair follicles which gradually lead to male pattern baldness. A lot of men, due to this reason, find themselves a victim of this situation where they can not do anything about it. They completely tend to ignore the point that these genes can not result in hair loss independently but cause hair loss only in the presence of other factors of hair loss such as stress, age and the likes.
Another cause of sudden hair loss in men, which a lot of hair expert agree upon, is dihydrotesterone which is better known as DHT. Over a period of time, the overproduction of dihydrotesterone results in weak, short and thin hair follicles. Gradually it leads to male baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia. What lead to the production of DHT is the reaction between 5-alpha-reductase enzyme with the male hormone testosterone. Since the male hormone is involved in this cause, thus it leads to hair loss after the male reaches the pubertal age which makes age related factor another reason for hair loss in men.
One of the major and unfortunately the most ignored cause of sudden hair loss in men is stress. When men are going through a traumatic phase of their life or are extremely stressed out, they release some chemicals which hinder the proper functioning of the body. So, if you are going through a lot of stress and notice hair dullness and a lot of hair loss then probably the cause of sudden hair loss is stress. This is a temporary phase and hair loss problem is solved once the stress level of the person comes back to normal.
Intake of certain medicines can also be the cause of sudden hair loss in men. Some of these medicines are anticoagulants, antidepressants, overdose of vitamin A, drugs that are taken in order to treat gout and so on. Some of the therapies can also result in fall of hair in men which are chemotherapy and radiation therapy. In addition, certain diseases are considered the cause of hair loss in men, for instance thyroid, diabetes, and fungal infection on the scalp. As soon as these diseases are cured, the hair loss problem is also solved.
To conclude, we can say that there are various causes of hair loss on men, which if pondered upon, can be the first step towards curing hair loss problem.
